The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. An air conditioner or heat pump uses its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s sent back through your home. This liquid is found within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most typical refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being phased out in response to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be in production. Introducing R-410A Chlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. R-410A will keep your home cool without damaging the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system perform efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for dependability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you’re sure to stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Twin Air LLC in Manassas, our cooling models can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
