How a Solar Energy System Works. The sun is already generating massive amounts of energy. Why not put it to work in your own home? With the Lennox® SunSource® Energy System we have available at Twin Air LLC in Manassas, you can cut down on your dependence on oil and gas and lower your utility bills. But how does it change from sunlight to energy? The easiest way to explain a solar energy system is that the system uses solar modules made of photovoltaic (PV) cells to take in energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. This electricity powers light, appliances and electrical devices in your home. Grid-tied PV systems Grid-tied PV systems are the most common and least expensive for residential solar systems. The SunSource Energy System we offer is grid-tied, and that means it’s connected to your utility company’s power grid or power stations. Grid-tied enables you to use your solar energy system to power your home. On occasions when the system isn’t creating electricity, your home will receive power through the utility grid. Additionally, when your system produces enough to power your home and then some, it will be fed back into the grid through a process called net-metering. With net-metering, your meter spins forward if you’re using electricity from the grid and backward when you’re SunSource System’s electricity is going back into the grid. *Note: Most rebates and incentives that make a solar energy system more affordable are only available when your system is grid-tied. Stand-alone PV systems are another option for those in remote areas without utility service, however they’re much more expensive. A stand-alone system is not connected to a utility grid and provide for a home’s entire energy consumption. Ready to go solar? Call Twin Air LLC at 703-754-1062 or schedule a meeting online.
