Why you should replace your air filter this winter

Air Quality

We encourage preventative maintenance on your heating and cooling system all the time, but this doesn’t just mean yearly tune-ups – it also involves checking your air filters. It’s a simple way to help keep your system running smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! Now is the ideal time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to a conclusion and summer is on the horizon. There are several benefits to getting a replacement air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A surefire way to instigate a system failure is a dirty air filter. Extra dirt that accumulates on your filter can influence your whole system to run harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and result in your system overheating.

Enhancing indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your home. After the filter has been in for a while, the less effective it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your home, especially if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With increased temperatures near, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you would prefer they aren’t moving in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and stay healthy throughout allergy season.

Inspect your system or ask your HVAC technician for guidance on how often you should be putting in a replacement filter. For the majority of the filters through Twin Air LLC, we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the best time to change your air filter?
